The last week of March I had the great fortune of taking my daughter to London for a week to meet my new 5-month old nephew. We went with few plans other than to meet the adorable, new addition to our family and to see some of the main sights. We were graced with insanely beautiful (uncharacteristic) British weather, as it was SUNNY and in the high ’60′s all week except for one day of some grey skies and an ever so slight drizzle. So we spent a glorious week walking the streets of London, visiting the many beautiful parks, eating delicious food and seeing old friends.
My daughter and I saw some amazing art exhibits. Our favorites were the Picasso & Modern British Art at the Tate Britain, an incredible Dale Chihuly showing atHalycon Gallery on New Bond Street and the Golden Spider Silk Cape exhibit at theVictoria and Albert Museum. My brother and I also had a lot of fun checking out the vintage treasures at Gauntlett Gallery and others on Pimlico Road. It was such an incredible experience to show my daughter these wonderful exhibits and galleries in the company of my brother and nephew.
I was pleasantly surprised that the gastronomic fare in London seems to improved vastly since my last visit over 11 years ago. I thoroughly enjoyed our Italian meal at Tinello on Pimlico Road (incredible design and wonderful food), Pizza East on Portobello Road andThe Mitre Pub Brasserie near Holland Park (best smoked salmon sandwich ever accompanied by a Sienna Miller viewing!). Ottolenghi received two visits from me, as I fell head over heels with their seasonal, prepared fare and peanut butter smores sandwich. MeltLuxury Chocolate in Notting Hill was another treat to visit—gorgeous, delicious chocolates in the most beautiful packaging. When we were too tired to stray too far, we ate at the local seasonal gastropub, Lots Road Pub, which was delicious, kid-friendly and filled with great people watching!
We also were able to visit my dear friend Brett of Wilbur and Gussie handbags at her studio and delivered a big order of Adesso Zodiacs that she had placed. I loved seeing another artist’s work in action! My daughter loved seeing all of Brett’s amazing vintage inspired animal clasps and closures. I found a new bag that I want and Brett managed to “adopt” some of the bracelets (a Fortunata and a Chumana) straight off of my wrist! I did a little bit of shopping (Zara Girls for my daughter was a blast and I fell head over heels with Zadig & Voltaire’s London selection), but mainly just took in all of the beauty around me.
I cannot wait to go back in July to see my nephew and keep working off my list of London to-do’s! I left inspired and excited for more!
London is calling again…
